Jess & Andreas’ Hydra Greece Destination Wedding

Jess and Andreas tied the knot last July in a stunning destination wedding on the island of Hydra in Greece. The wedding celebration, which spanned days of events that included welcome drinks, a beach party, and a rehearsal dinner, culminated in a beautiful ceremony at Sunset Restaurant, a cliffside restaurant with one of the most beautiful sunset views in the world.

Jess wore the Bella gown for her wedding–a style she fell in love with during a trunk show at LPG retailer, Powder Bride, in Toronto–and we can all agree, she couldn’t have looked more beautiful!

How did you and Andreas meet?

We saw each other one night at the SOHO House in Toronto, then again the next day.. Andreas came over and started talking to me.. we talked the whole day and ended up going to dinner that night. We spent every day together after that.. Everything from then on happened very naturally and easily.

How did you get engaged?

Andreas proposed to me in February 2017 during the most beautiful snow storm. He had picked up the ring he made from the jewelers and couldn’t wait. We were supposed to be meeting friends for dinner so I was in the middle of curling my hair when he asked me to take our dog out for a walk with him. I initially resisted, but luckily I didn’t put up too much of a fight. I was so shocked when it happened as I really didn’t see it coming.. We were a bit late for dinner as a result, but luckily we had a great excuse!

Tell us about your wedding venue and theme.

Andreas is half Greek, so we’ve spent a lot of time in Greece together visiting his family. It is also our favorite place to vacation, so it was the obvious choice for us.. We knew we wanted to do a few different days of events so we needed a place that had many great venues. We chose Hydra because not only is it beautiful, it’s also a small island with no cars, so everything is walking distance.

What are some of the things you loved about planning your wedding?

We live in Toronto so most of our planning took place over Skype with our wedding planners. They even did a flower trial for us using FaceTime. I’m really organized and loved putting together Pinterest boards to send them, but because I couldn’t see anything in person I had no clue how it was going to turn out. We put a lot of faith in the Twelve Events and they totally nailed it.

How did you find your wedding dress?

I definitely took my time finding a dress because it was so nice to have those afternoons out shopping with my mom. My favorite store was Powder Bride because I had seen the most beautiful dresses by LPG on their Instagram even before getting engaged.. I needed a dress that checked a lot of boxes–it couldn’t too heavy or something I would get hot in, but it also couldn’t be too casual as our wedding was black tie. Thankfully Lee Grebenau did a trunk show at Powder where I tried on the Bella dress. I knew immediately I had found the right dress as it was so light and airy without sacrificing any of the drama or couture details. I loved how Grecian it looked with all the intricate beading which reminded me of laurel leaves.

What is one of your favorite memories of the wedding?

There are no cars in Hydra so the only mode of transportation is walking, riding a donkey, or taking a water taxi. It was incredibly hot outside and my dress had a train, so I agreed to ride a donkey (her name is Marigold) to the ceremony.. It was quite a public spectacle (even Kelly Ripa happened to be on the island and stopped to wave!). It’s a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of the dress as I don’t think a single bead fell off the entire evening, even post donkey ride!
